DAV LIBRARY: AN OVERVIEW

The Library of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam was established and has evolved alongside the birth and development of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam since 1959. Throughout its operation, the Library has played a vital role in supporting training, scientific research, foreign affairs, and international cooperation of the Academy, providing essential resources for generations of students, faculty members, and researchers of both the Academy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Library currently houses approximately 37,826 materials, including more than 21,554 book titles, nearly 5,500 undergraduate theses, master’s dissertations, and doctoral theses, over 500 scientific research reports at various levels, 25 types of Vietnamese journals and newspapers, and 15 types of foreign periodicals. The Library’s reference collection focuses deeply on International Relations, International Economics, International Law, regional and global issues, Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Ideology, the domestic and foreign policies of the Party and State of Vietnam, and the political, historical, cultural, religious, defense, and security situations of Vietnam and various countries worldwide. The collection of textbooks, monographs, and academic materials for all training disciplines is prioritized for annual updates and supplementation.

The Library is currently managed under a modern smart library system, utilizing the TULIP platform through the "Project on Strengthening Training and Research Capacities." This project is funded by Official Development Assistance (ODA) and counterpart capital at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, sponsored by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) for cataloging, periodical management, and archive administration. The Digital Library began its operation in early 2022, with more than 21,115 documents cataloged and 6,562 materials summarized and digitized to serve the search and reference needs of readers.

In 2021, the Library of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam was renovated and expanded to more than three times its previous size, with upgraded modern equipment. The Library is now divided into three floors consisting of five reading rooms with a total area of 2,199.5m2 . Notably, several reading rooms have been equipped with computers and networked systems for internet access and research through the sponsorship of international partners such as China, the United States, France, and Australia. The Library’s archive storage covers an area of 500m2.

For the 2025 - 2030 period, the Library aims for comprehensive development: enhancing its resource collection, modernizing facilities, and building a high-quality electronic and digital library. Furthermore, it seeks to expand its service scope not only within the Academy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but also to other government agencies, ministries, and educational institutions nationwide. In particular, the Library strives to become the Digital Knowledge Data Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the future.
