Tóm tắt

The book East Asia at a Crossroads: Challenges for ASEAN analyzes the shifting political, economic, and security landscape of East Asia and its implications for ASEAN. It highlights how the end of the Cold War, the rise of China, Japan’s evolving role, and the strategic presence of the United States have created both opportunities and uncertainties for regional stability. The study focuses on ASEAN’s central position in promoting dialogue, cooperation, and integration in East Asia, while at the same time confronting serious challenges such as territorial disputes, economic competition, protectionism, nationalism, and the need for stronger institutional frameworks. The book emphasizes that ASEAN’s future relevance depends on its ability to adapt, strengthen internal unity, and lead regional mechanisms like ASEAN+3, the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), and the East Asia Summit.
