Miriam Coronel Ferrer is a professor of political science at the University of the Philippines. She has written extensively on democratization, civil society, human rights, and conflict resolution. In 2012, she was appointed to the Philippine government peace panel negotiating with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), and in 2014 she became the first woman chief negotiator to sign a major peace accord with a rebel group — the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro. Her academic work and peacebuilding practice reflect her longstanding engagement in issues of political reform, autonomy, and the pursuit of lasting peace in the Philippines.
